Visit to Devon.

Just back from a couple of sunny days away in Devon and full of ideas for the gallery. Best lunch for a long time at Sharpham vineyard on the river Dart. Give it a try if you're in the Totnes area.

The Studio

After a long absence I'm back in my studio and the first canvas is coming along well. It feels great to be back after over a year in the wilderness. The place wrapped itself around me and any anxiety at starting work fell away at once. My head is fizzing with Ideas for new work and some reworking of old themes - Northumberland, the Western Isles, The Lake District and of course, some more pictures of people - a busy summer ahead!

Cathedral Over Gold

Here's a painting from last August but the English countryside is perhaps at its best right now. This morning's bike ride began in cool air but after a few miles the spring warmth was on our backs. The hedgerows are bursting into life an blossom covers the trees. Our route back took us through Newby Hall park which is full of new born lambs. We saw a pair of brown hares racing round a field of spring corn and partridge scuttering off through the fast lengthening grass of the verges - a great morning to be alive.......Thanks for the company Al.

Linocuts

A beautiful, warm, sunny day, plenty of customers about and I have the sun shade down for the first time this year. I've spent most of the day in the workshop mounting prints for the rack and printing paper bags but there will, no doubt, be a bottle of something chilled with my name on it somewhere.

Did you know the 'S' is the wrong way round?
